Time Trial Roundup for the last week

Thursday’s Club TT – N7/10

After being thwarted by roadworks a couple of weeks ago we had our first chance of the year to race on the N7 (A45) course on Thursday evening in one of our popular 10m TT’s.

Being able to use the Earls Barton Primary school as an HQ meant that riders could prepare well for the race with several going through their warm up routines on their turbos and rollers while others warmed up by riding there or on the roads close to the HQ.

The conditions weren’t obviously good but there were superb rides all over the filed of 21 riders.

In the Open category from a KCC perspective the quickest rider on the night was Andy Fairley with an impressive 20:25.

Chris Old’s time of 21:54 saw him come home in 2nd place on what was his first race in a long time.

Riding a Road Bike, Scott Barber sped home in 22:48 narrowly beating Lucas Buksh, also on a Road Bike, who finished in a huge PB of 23:09. Clearly the George Fox Bike Fit that George donated as a prize at our presentation lunch earlier in the year and Lucas had the day before worked wonders. Lucas managed to pip his dad too although Marcus was really pleased with his time of 23:12 off the back of not too much training.

In the Ladies Category Maria Gent came home in 25:05. That wasn’t here best time for a 10 but after the tiring day she’d had in London with work she was pretty pleased.

Well done to all of the KCC riders.

All of our other guests enjoyed the conditions too. George Fox was the quickest with 18:04. Great ride George! There was a good turnout by George’s team too with the super impressive rides from Jason Bateman (no, not that one 😀) with 19:16, Hudson Hendry with a great 19:32 and Tony Brown with 19:53.

We had one lady guest, Lynne Scofield from Rockingham Forest. It was her first 10 on a Dual Carriageway course so went much faster than she’d been in the past. Well done Lynne!

It’s worthwhile analysing the results using the ResultSheet app as it allows you to see not only the actual times but age related performances. Based on these factors everybody performed well in advance of the age adjusted/related times.

There was a great atmosphere at the HQ after the event with everybody enjoying the refreshments and a good bit of banter.

Thanks to everybody who raced and thanks too to Mick Wood and Ian Bird for marshalling and to Jamie and Charlie Stockham for starting the riders off and helping so much at the HQ.

Sunday’s 50m Championship TT

We ran again on the same roads on Sunday although doing 6 laps not 1 and a bit! What was different was the weather. Although the rain had stopped and the roads rapidly dried there was a strong wind which wasn’t conducive to fast times.

That said, Andy Fairley completed a hat trick of victories in the Club Championships with a pretty impressive time of 1:55:08.

Scott Barber rode his first ever 50m TT and came home in a very respectable 2:07:09 on his road bike.

Well done guys you both earned your Bacon Butties afterwards.

Maria Gent made it 2 out of 3 club championships in the ladies’ section fighting the wind to go round in 2:24:09. Well done Maria, that should help set you up for some late season fast times.

Our one guest rider who rode the 50 was Phil Wilkinson from Rockingham Forest. Even with a small mechanical issue he got under the 2 hour mark so that was a good morning’s preparation for his upcoming National 12 Hour event.

Alongside the 50 we had a few riders who wanted to ride a 25.

Marcus Buksh continued on the comeback trail with 1:07:29. It was great to see Samantha Broadway and Sue Davys again for the first time in a while recording 1:16:05 and 1:21:29 respectively. Also competing in the ladies section was Lynne Scofield again and she did a PB of 1:22:01 which made the getting up early well worth it.

Afterwards Charlie Stockham impressed us with his culinary skills for which everybody was extremely grateful.

As an organiser I was also very grateful for the help that Jamie Stockham gave me in particular with the timekeeping and HQ arrangements. Thanks guys.

Here are some videos of Furbs, Maria and Scott.
