Time Keeper: Jon Thorne
Marshalls: Martin Keable and Martin Patmore (Sywell roundabout)
A big thanks to them, as without them the event would not be able to go ahead.
When there’s a tail wind out, there’s going to be a head wind back!
A cooler morning for the TT at Broughton, not typical of recent, this morning was dull, with a light mist of rain at times and a northerly breeze that was to be a challenge for riders on the return leg. This was the second visit to the course and it attracted a full field of 20 KCC riders and 5 guests.
Continuing with covid-19 measures, no pusher-off, and all riders seem to of mastered the clipping in, including me this time! Outward, there was the benefit of the northerly tail wind, and it was a bit of a shock turning into the head wind at the Sywell roundabout. It was then a tough ride on the return, this was all about holding your aero position and maintaining power, and holding out to the finish.

It’s great to see a good field of Ladies and we welcomed Andrea Woolcott who rode her second TT on a road bike, and new member Satpaul Dard, having his first go at Time Trials.
It always amazes me how the fast riders, still go fast, whatever the weather, they seem to just cut through the air, it’s so impressive.
KCC Tony Brown, with an improvement of 11 seconds from the last time he rode this course a couple of weeks ago, finished with a winning time of 21:36, beating Andy Fairley 22:11 second, and Eddie Smith 23:07 in third.
Securing another Ladies win, Sue Rust was fastest with 24:38 (first), with Lindsay Scott securing second 26:11, just pipping Andrea Woolcott 26:24 coming third. It’s the first time Lindsay and Andrea have ridden our Broughton course, I hope they enjoyed it and well done both of you.
Superb rides by our Juniors, Josh Brown, 23:21 on a road bike setup and another strong ride by Hudson Hendry, 26:10. Well done Josh and Hudson.
In the road bike category, Josh took the overall with Andy King at 25:48 second and Andrea Woolcott 26:24 third.
The guest riders, Phil Melling taking first, and overall second with 21:59, beating Warren Drew 23:18 second, Phil Wilkinson, on his road bike took third place 24:13.
It was great to see another full start sheet of riders giving a mixed field, with a scattering of ladies and juniors, we saw a mix of TT setups and road bikes, all creating uncertainty of times and positions. We also welcomed new riders who I hope enjoyed the atmosphere, race and banter.
Well done everyone for making this a smooth and well run event.
