Turned out very different

The ride on Sunday 15th May could have turned out very differently but most of us managed to miss the torrential rain that made a few riders do their own rides later.

It all started off normal

With the normal start in Kettering, outside Sainsbury’s, seven riders set out in a northerly direction heading for the Welland Valley.  Mark Brockway, Ian Bird, Andy King, Sophie Griffin, Haythem Rashed, Scott Barber and Andy Parker met with Will Lawton on the descent into Rushton.

Shake out

Bright sunshine and a very gentle breeze made cycling conditions pretty good, though King’s Hill into Uppingham started to shake out the group.

Regathering in Uppingham, we then encountered Salv Semenerio assisting Paul Simson of St Neots who needed chain repair support in Seaton.

The climb

Salv joined the group there as we descended under Harringworth Viaduct, before the group split again on the 11% climb out of Harringworth.

A pretty quick run in ensued past Southwick and up to the Greedy Piglet in Oundle for our scheduled coffee stop.

Heading back refuelled

After a quick stop the route took us East before turning west through Titchmarsh and then home with the Kettering contingent clocking up around 60 miles.

Most of us managed to miss the torrential rain that made a few riders do their own rides later.
