Where do we start… it was more like March than May, the early riders came across blocked roads by hare coursing 4×4’s that were keen to see if their dog was in front rather than spectate the more sedate sport of time trialling.
Lamport… another course favouring the stronger rider, as we have the rolling start of climbs before you get a resbite as you start to reign into the last of the airfield straight to ride parallel with the A14 down to the Rothwell roundabout turn, taking as much of a rest-bite as you can before retracing the route with the arduous climb back. This is a real test of your stamina and those Vo2max sessions on the turbo, and tonight was made even more torturous by the strong side winds. Windsock, shows you how it was… tough, just two very short sections where we actually had a tail wind.
The early riders were hindered by the hare coursing, where we had 4×4’s, screeching to a stop on the rolling hills after the start, which many riders encountering them, feared the worst for the rider in front as it looked like a multi-car pile up. It was only on slowing up and navigating your way through them that it was apparent that they were betting on a completely different winner than our TT results. No other holdups were reported and all riders had a safe race. If you’re interested to see how much of an impact this had on riders, have a look at the braking analysis, it’s effect was 15-30 seconds!
21 riders signed up, and the full field rode, which was great considering the horrid chill, gusts and the constant threat of rain, thankfully, we all stayed dry, but we had a parade of woolly hats, fleeces and leg warmers quickly layered on after the race.. it was cold!
The TT setup ruled the night, saturating the start sheet and considering the elements produced some awesome times, with visiting riders taking the first 6 places overall, with Tony Brown producing the overall win with 23:51.

KCC Riders
Andy King took 1st with an impressive 25:29 putting in enough to secure the win by 20 seconds off of Mike Cope 25:49, just pipping 2nd off of Mark Weathersby on his road bike setup 25:52.
After a stint of marshalling the KCC ladies were back this week, Sue Rust taking 1st (overall 4th) with 27:03, Maria Gent 2nd place time of 28:09.
Looks like we have a good duelling in the juniors with Lucas Buksh producing a great ride 29:15 to take the win over Eddie Hennah 29:52, and we see Jake Bird, maybe hooked on TT’s … having his second ride and producing a really decent 34:46 at just 12 years old. We are looking forward to Jake on his “hand me down” Willier next week!
Guest Riders
As mentioned earlier, fastest overall on the night and taking the Guests win, Tony Brown, now riding for GFCS 23:51, taking the win by 17 seconds from Hans Van Nierop (WVCC) 24:08, sneaking in before Alex Garner 24:14. Representing the ladies in the guest start sheet was Jade Mobbs, it was great to see her again, giving Maria a marker for the night, crossing the line on 28:02, just seconds in it ladies.

Thank you to Eddie Smith taking some snaps at the roundabout turn. Personally as a rider, i love to see these photos and the riding positions of each rider style and reflective of the time they achieve, it would be interesting to see if there was a favourable ride position as there’s been a change from the ski-bars to the manta positon over the time i’ve been racing, and I’m a relative newbie (2016).
