Time Keeper: Jon Thorne

Time Keeper Assistant: Marcus Buksh

Marshals: Mick Wood, Adrian Gorham & Tony Brown

A big thanks to them, as without them the event would not be able to go ahead

Was the sun really out?

Weather: Broken clouds, 8°C, Feels like 1°C, Humidity 49%, Wind 14mph from ENE – by Klimat.app

The second race of the season attracted 22 riders, who all safely made it round the course, even Eddie got the course right this week and Lucas admitted to missing the sharp turn in Brigstock, which he then later added, he did last week as well. Look out for Lucas’s times improving as he gets it right.

This week there was an abundance of road bike entries, our Grafton course is particularly hilly, so it suits the road bike setup, light carbon and strong climbers, however, as a counter balance, the aero advantage of the TT bike setups, it makes an interesting result sheet.

League Championships

This event, was a Ladies and Junior counting event, but all of our time trial races are part of our club league championship, so with the positivity of the season continuing and Covid getting under some degree of control it’s looking like we could have a race season that reflects some normality. With that in mind, we should be able to have a league championship, and we’ll publish the results taking this into account, so as of this week, and last weeks now reflect the overall positioning for the championship. Going forward second claim members will appear in the guest listing, with their first claim listed, being a KCC second claim still has it’s advantages as you pay the KCC entry fee £3, against the guest fee of £5, so well worth becoming a member of the club. It will affect how we show you in the race results, you’ll be listed under your first claim, as a guest rider and you are not included in our overall league championship table.

We ask you to help Jon

When signing on, could you please sign on with your 1st/2nd claim, rather than just KCC, this will help Jon tally the monies due as well as help us build the results table. For instance, you’ll see Hudson this week, in the results below as RFW (KCC).

It was a faster night for all riders

There were a lot of shivering riders, making most of warming up and I’m personally envious of Maria and those zip on leg warmers… I’ve got some ordered and I bet it gets warm by then.

The riders were battling a with westerly gusts that became the challenge for the riders as gaps appeared in the hedgerows and the trucks air vortex as they went past on the A6116, and the added sections of poor visibility due to the low sun that was particularly bad just before the turn in Brigstock, so far play to Lucas for missing that left turn.

Despite the weather, all riders significantly improved their times compared to last week.

We had a few come and try riders, and we hope you’d consider joining the club and continuing to enjoy the club events and participate in our league championships.

KCC Riders

Lindsey Smith took the first spot this week, 34:25, with a very strong ride indeed, taking the win from Eddie Smith on his TT setup crossing the finish with 34:37 it was a clear 1, 2 as next fastest time was from Gary Carter on his road bike, another strong ride, taking 3rd 36:29. Fantastic rides by both Lindsey and Gary, both showing that this course is suitable for both bike setups.

Taking joint 4th place, are two ladies, we have Sue Rust and Lindsay Scott, both 36:33, both also taking joint 1st place in the first ladies counting event. In fact there were only 35 seconds between Sue, Lindsay, Amy and Maria… Amy Bird taking 3rd 36:47, Maria Gent 37:08, it’s going to be an interesting season.

In the Juniors, having another go at time trials was Lucas Buksh, but he was nudged off taking first place by Eddie Hennah, 40:48, just 6 seconds in front of Lucas 40:54. Well done Eddie, we look forward to seeing more from you both, and Lucas you might well of had the win if you’d of not missed that turn!

Guest Riders

Fastest overall on the night came from Warren Drew (Rapha) which was also the fastest on the night with a TT setup 33:24, followed by an equally impressive ride from Hudson Hendry (RFW) 33:29. Hudson, this week on a TT setup shows he’s a serious speed contender and one to look out for in the future. Coming in 3rd was Neil MacDonald 36:58. Well done everyone that rode, it was not pleasant, but surprisingly faster than everyone thought.

A mention goes to the rest of the guest riders, all producing great times on the night, and it was also good to see the return of Helen Etherington, having another go and Jess Wynn-Verninck having a go at her first time trial along with Ashley Easton, and I believe Nigel Etherington, also having a go at tt’s for the first time.
