To understand how the new tier restrictions apply to our club rides, you can read this article

In summary

For groups from ‘Medium’ or ‘High’ areas, you are permitted to ride into a ‘Very high’ area as part of your route, however you should not stop for a break while in that area.

For groups from ‘Very high’ areas, you are permitted to ride into ‘Medium’, ‘High’ or other ‘Very high’ areas as part of your route, however you should only stop for a break while within your own area.

…. Cycling UK can no longer advise groups that they can rely on the organised activity exemption.

Accordingly, our advice in England is that group rides in England should be restricted to a maximum of six participants. However, multiple groups of six are permissible, as long as these groups do not come into contact with one another.

Update 01-12-2020 : Social riding

Taken from: https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/coronavirus-qa-cycling-guidance

Please read the whole article to define, households, bubbles etc.

England

From 2 December, local authority areas will be placed in one of three alert level Tiers. Regardless of which tier your home is in, you can still cycle for exercise or recreation either:

  • alone;
  • with members of your household, linked household (“support bubble”) or linked childcare household;
  • OR in a group of no more than six people from different households.

There is no restriction on the distance you can cycle for exercise, where within England you can cycle, or the frequency of rides.

You are permitted to ride from a Tier 1 or 2 (Medium or High risk) area into a Tier 3 (Very High risk) area as part of your route, however you should not stop for a break while in that area.

Similarly, you are permitted to ride from a Tier 3 area into Tier 1, Tier 2 or other Tier 3 areas as part of your route, however you should only stop for a break while within your own area.

The following measures and restrictions are in place for us to resume our social rides in July 2020.

Do not attend if you feel unwell.

If you are in a vulnerable group, please do not attend.

Not all risks can be eliminated. Just as you cannot take into account every possibility or occurrence, it is necessary and proper that all obvious risks and likely risks are considered and dealt with by way of a RARA approach (Remove, Avoid, Reduce, Accept).

Register to attend.

You are required to register using Signup Genius so that the organiser can assign groups that meet current Covid-19 guidelines.

Meeting point

Please respect the 2m guideline for social distancing unless you are with a family member/member of your household. Please arrive before the advertised time as this is the time of departure.

Keep to the assigned groups

There will be groups that will consist of a maximum of six people including the organiser.

Each assigned group may ride at different paces, however we aim for the same cafe stop and hopefully at the same time, usually at 11am ish, please download the route so that you are familiar with where we are going.

The government guideline is 2m apart, however it is recognised that you can be 1m apart at junctions and slowing down or riding two abreast, as long as you are not face-to-face.  Please position yourself in the road to be safe, that your fellow riders can be safe and we are not breaking the groups of 6 rules.

We operate a no drop, so we will ride at the pace of the slowest rider in the group.

Cafe stop

Please respect the measures in place at the venues we stop, wear a face mask if asked when inside the cafe, and adhere to social distancing. Respect that the venue is not exclusive to KCC, if we consume the seating areas, please choose to stand and gather in no more than groups of 6 so that seating can be freed for other visitors.

Face masks

Please make your own decision if you wish to ride with a face mask on.

Toilets

There may not be any toilet facilities available at the cafe, which is not ideal, but it is something we cannot influence.

Club jerseys

We ask that you wear the KCC club jersey or full club kit when joining in our organised rides, please talk to Ian Bird if you wish to purchase kit.
